KyklOIKOdromio, with the support of the Municipality of Strovolos, once again this year carried out a series of visits to eight summer clubs of the Strovolos Multi-Purpose Municipal Centre, as part of the summer programme of the Protection and Employment Centres.
During these visits, more than 400 children participated in educational and creative workshops focusing on the core principles of the Circular Economy and the 9Rs (Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle).
Through experiential and recreational activities, the children had the opportunity to explore the importance of reuse and creative material repurposing. With imagination and teamwork, they transformed “waste” materials into useful and original creations, such as dollhouses, pencil holders, and paper rockets. Using glass jars and fabrics, they also created practical containers and decorative crafts, discovering that every object can gain new value when used thoughtfully.
These activities form part of the educational programmes “Learning about the Circular Economy and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals” and “Caring for Animals, Respecting Life”, implemented by KyklOIKOdromio in collaboration with the Municipality of Strovolos and with the support of the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare.
As part of this initiative, a Guide of Educational Activities for Animal Welfare entitled “Caring for Animals, Respecting Life” is currently under development. The guide will serve as a valuable resource for teachers and students, aiming to promote compassion for animals and strengthen environmental awareness.
In addition, the Educational Guide on the Circular Economy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, developed in 2024 by KyklOIKOdromio in collaboration with the Municipality of Strovolos and with the support of the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, is now available. The guide is designed for primary education teachers, providing ideas and tools to help integrate the principles of sustainable development and circular economy into the learning process.
