Tiny innovators summer workshops

The members of the KyklOIKOdromio organized four workshops at the Montessori Training Centre and Childs Workshop Kindergarten for the tiny innovators, during July 2024. The theme of the workshops was to make crafts with recyclable materials, activities designed for children aged 2-5 years.
In the first workshop, the children made little rockets out of recyclable materials, which they each decorated in their own imaginative way! The cultivation of environmental behaviour and the importance of making use of an object until the end of its life is adapted to each age level and it is very important to cultivate it from the pre-school age.
During the second workshop, the children, guided by the KyklOIKOdromio team and on the occasion of the World Chimpanzee Day on 14 July, made little chimpanzees by reusing materials that for the children seemed useless. Reusing materials is an opportunity to enhance a child's imagination and creativity while fostering pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours.
In the third workshop, the children first participated in a hidden treasure game in which they had to locate the hidden recyclable materials. They then used these recyclable materials, which had a bird and nature theme, to create a painting on a makeshift cardboard canvas. The purpose of the activity was to foster in the children an interest in exploring the space and identifying recyclable materials that can be reused, activating their imagination and creativity.
In the fourth workshop, children aged 3-5 years old applied the principles of circular economy and upgraded the toilet paper roll by turning it into binoculars! The activity aroused their interest and enthusiasm as their construction is expected to stimulate their interest in observing and exploring the natural world.

KyklOIKOdromio is especially grateful to Montessori Training Centre and Childs Workshop Kindergarten for hosting KyklOIKOdromio  for four consecutive sessions to educate preschool children on the application of circular economy principles in everyday life. We also hope that the implementation of related activities will raise awareness among parents to create productive and quality time at home.
