On 23/10/2024, the 31st Annual Pan-Cyprian Conference of the Pan Cyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council (PVCC) was held in Nicosia. The conference, titled "Engaging Young People in the Management Boards of Volunteer Organizations/NGOs" was addressed to professionals dealing with youth, volunteers, board members of NGOs, students, and other stakeholders. Its goal was to emphasize the importance of youth involvement in NGO governance and to highlight the challenges stemming from the age composition of NGO boards.

During the conference, Dr. Athina Georgiou Shippi, Head - Environmental Expert, presented examples of good practices implemented by KyklOIKOdromio to engage young people in governance.

KyklOIKOdromio has successfully involved young people in decision-making through:

  • Employing young scientists focused on environmental protection and sustainability.
  • Participatory processes, such as participation in monthly Board of Directors meetings, encouraging young people to express opinions and contribute to shaping strategies and policies, boosting their confidence and representation.
  • Educational programs that enhance young people’s skills such as strategic thinking, decision-making, and management.
  • Team-building activities, promoting collective collaboration.

The participation of young people in NGO boards has significant benefits:

  • Young people contribute fresh viewpoints that can revitalize and improve organizational processes.
  • Young people acquire key leadership and professional skills, such as decision-making, strategic thinking, and project management.
  • Their involvement prepares them for future challenges.
  • Young people represent their generation and actively contribute to decisions that affect them.
  • They connect with professionals, entrepreneurs, and other members of the organization, enhancing future collaboration and career prospects.

Through its inclusive framework, KyklOIKOdromio provides a meaningful platform for youth engagement and growth, ensuring both personal development for young individuals and a dynamic evolution for the organization.
