On November 29, 2024, KyklOIKOdromio’s team visited the Gymnasium and Lyceum School Kato Pyrgos, to introduce students to the principles of the circular economy. Warmly welcomed by a group of 35 enthusiastic teachers and students, our team embarked on an engaging and educational journey.
The workshop began with an interactive presentation that outlined the core principles of the circular economy, emphasizing the "9 R's" framework and their hierarchy—from the most to the least desirable practices. Real-life examples of actions like "Refuse," "Reduce," "Repair," and additional circular economy practices were discussed, helping students connect these concepts to their everyday lives. Students actively contributed by sharing their own experiences and ideas, fostering an engaging and collaborative atmosphere.
In the second half of the workshop, creativity took stage. Students were divided into groups and tasked with creating artwork using large canvases and recyclable materials. Everyday items such as newspapers, magazines, paper and plastic packaging, fabrics, and bags were repurposed into imaginative creations. One group began crafting a model of a church using toilet paper rolls, while others designed festive Christmas trees inspired by the holiday season.
The workshop’s goal was to highlight the value of reusing materials before they are discarded or recycled. Students discovered firsthand how items often seen as waste can be transformed into something new and meaningful, offering both utility and creative satisfaction. The activity left a lasting impression, deepening students' understanding of and appreciation for the circular economy's role in building a sustainable future.
KyklOIKOdromio would like to thank the School Director and the teachers for the invitation.
