The second General Coordination Meeting of the project "Academy for Transitional Skills in the Built Environment" (BuildSkills Academy), funded under the Erasmus+ programme, took place in Athens on 6-7 June 2024. The BuildSkills Academy project was officially launched on 1 June 2023 with a total budget of EUR 3,938,490. The two-day meeting was hosted at the Athens University of Economics and Business and brought together partners from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Germany, Cyprus, Italy, Cyprus, Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The focus of the «BuildSkills Academy» project remains on the strategic development of up-skilling and re-skilling the construction ecosystem with certified transitional skills and competences through a network of Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers across Europe.

The common main objective of the BuildSkills Academy is to create a pan-European framework and system for the certification and upgrading of knowledge and skills for the so-called "twin" transition (green and digital) with a focus on the construction sector. Organisations providing vocational education and training (VET) play an important role in the project and their main activity will be the adaptation of the vocational education and training services offered to include emerging new needs in the field of green and digital skills.

The main achievements and discussions of the second General Coordination Meeting of the "BuildSkills Academy" project included:

  • Methodology for Upskilling and Reskilling: presented by Dr. Ebun Akinsetee and Voula Samara from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
  • Digital Platform: Introduced by Eleni Toli and Panagiota Koltsida to support the educational methodology of the project.
  • Updates of work packages: Package leaders shared progress and engaged in fruitful discussions on the methodology and accreditation procedures.
  • Special Address: Prof. Phoebe Koundouri discussed Ae4ria - Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Αephoria's work and highlighted the report “Twin Skills for the Twin Transition” launched during COP28.

The second General Coordination Meeting of the BuildSkills Academy project highlighted the commitment of the project partners and the value of the project for industry.  Beyond the productive sessions, participants enjoyed networking, strengthening the spirit of collaboration.

From Cyprus, three different organisations - with different expertise - are participating in the project, that will contribute to the successful completion of the project: the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the Cyprus Certification Company (CCC) and KyklOIKOdromio.
