The team of KyklOIKOdromio and volunteers supported the annual clean-up campaign of Let's do it! This year the action took place along with the events of 1st Sustainable Pediaios River Festival… stream of life! On 30th of October 2024 we gathered with friend and volunteers at the Nicosia Municipal Garden and walked while cleaning a section of the linear park up to Prodromos Park.
During the clean-up action, we collected a total of 9 litter bags, 4 of which contained PMD recyclable materials. Additionally, we found surprisingly, and collected items such as two vacuum cleaners and two radios, which were scattered in pieces, from the riverbank.
The clean-up campaign initiative has been designed to raise public awareness about environmental protection and to encourage responsible behaviour toward nature and the environment in our surroundings. The ultimate goal is to eliminate the necessity for clean-up campaigns by fostering a culture where public spaces are consistently maintained in a clean and orderly state. This can be achieved by each individual taking responsibility—first by respecting themselves, then their fellow citizens, and finally the environment—by refraining from littering. Parks and streets are not to be treated as waste disposal sites.
Achieving this vision requires sustained efforts to cultivate a mindset that discourages littering and promotes environmental consciousness and accountability across all levels of society.
We urge everyone to embrace the principle of "Leave nothing behind" and to actively contribute to preserving our spaces clean and beautiful. Let us demonstrate respect for nature and safeguard the environment for the benefit of future generations.
