KyklOIKOdromio in Limassol – European Mobility Week 2025

KyklOIKOdrοmio and this year actively participated in European Mobility Week 2025, a European initiative promoting sustainable mobility and human-friendly cities, held from 16 to 22 September. This year, KyklOIKOdrοmio travelled to Limassol for a series of activities and workshops in collaboration with the Municipality of Limassol and joined the Laou Laou – Open Streets event, which took place on Saturday, 20 September, co-organized by Friends of the Earth and OPU.

KyklOIKOdrοmio team visited nine private kindergartens in the Municipality of Limassol, where implemented a Creative Reuse Workshop under the theme: “New Stories from Old Objects – Learning to Move Sustainably!”. The children created unique little buses using recyclable materials, which they decorated with imagination and vibrant colours. The aim of the workshop was to help them understand the importance of sustainable mobility, appreciate the role of public transport such as buses, and discover the value of reusing materials. With enthusiasm and creativity, the young participants produced wonderful creations that were proudly showcased at the Laou Laou – Open Streets event. A total of 220 children aged 3–6 years took part in the workshops.

On Saturday, 20 September, Agkyras Street and the streets surrounding the Medieval Castle were given back to people rather than cars. Residents and visitors, young and old, enjoyed dozens of activities: street painting, games and treasure hunts, crafts, music, dancing, cycling activities, e-bike and electric bus demonstrations, karaoke, a live link by CUT Radio, and many other surprises that kept the area lively from early morning until the evening.

KyklOIKOdrómio also set up an alternative outdoor creative workshop, where a large cardboard bus became both a canvas for creativity and a fun photo booth. Made from reused cardboard boxes, the bus was perfectly sized for children to step inside and pose as passengers and drivers. By the end of the event, the bus had been transformed with drawings, colours, and messages thanks to the children’s imagination.

At the same time, an old bicycle, the was very damages and it did worth to repair, so it was transformed into a piece of art, decorated with fabrics, ribbons, and beads – a bicycle that can beautify the neighbourhood, capture attention, and deliver a strong message about sustainable mobility and the circular economy.

In addition, KyklOIKOdrómio donated around 30 used books to the open library that was set up on site during the event, supporting access to knowledge and encouraging a love of reading for both children and adults.

KyklOIKOdrómio’s participation in European Mobility Week in Limassol once again highlighted the power of collaboration, creativity, and collective action. Through play, art, and creative expression, children and adults alike discovered that our cities could become more welcoming, greener, and more human-cantered. With such initiatives, we are taking steady steps toward a future where sustainable mobility and the circular economy are not just aspirations but part of everyday life.
