It was with deep emotion that I participated, in my capacity as Chair of the Board of Directors of KyklOIKOdromio, in the presentation of the 2025 Sustainable Development Award for Non-Governmental Organizations, within the framework of the competition “17 Goals, Actions for a Future.” This recognition for our initiative “Circular Economy Actions for All” constitutes a significant affirmation that sustainability can indeed be achieved when it is grounded in collective effort and a spirit of contribution.

We often say that “still waters run deep,” and truly, through quiet, systematic, and persistent work, we have succeeded in building an initiative that extends far beyond our size: an open, participatory, community-driven project focused on reuse and responsibility, one in which every citizen can engage.

This award belongs to all those who have stood beside us throughout this journey.

We dedicate it with sincere gratitude to the members of our Board of Directors, our staff, and our volunteers, individuals who represent the heartbeat and strength behind every action we take. Their dedication, perseverance, and unwavering belief in our vision bring us one step closer each day to a more circular, equitable, and sustainable society.

Allow me, however, to make a personal acknowledgement.

I dedicate this distinction to the vision of my late mother, Elli Themistokleous Achilleos, who I believe is watching over us from heaven. She deeply believed that kindness, contribution, and respect for the environment can truly change the world. I am certain that today she would be proud that our work is being recognized, because this award reflects the values, she taught us and the vision in which she raised us.

We express our warm thanks to the organizers, the Directorate General for Growth of the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights, the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare, the Pancyprian Coordinating Council for Volunteerism, and the Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR Cyprus).

We remain committed to advancing our mission with even greater determination, creativity, and collaboration, so that the circular economy may become a way of life and a point of reference for all citizens and communities of our country.
